Firenze – The serious accident at work at Solvay in Rosignano on 27 September brought the councillor Silvia Noferi (M5S) to present a question which was answered by the Health Councilor Simone Bezzini.

In the act the questioner, stating that the measures adopted to date by the Belgian multinational have probably not been sufficient to guarantee safety, asked the regional executive what monitoring, safety and environmental protection activities the Region had implemented field in the last year at the Solvay plant in Rosignano.

The councilor recalled how, as regards supervisory activities regarding the protection of health and safety in the workplace, these are carried out by the territorially competent local health authority and how, in the case of large companies such as Solvay, the activities described above are also the subject of a specific program by the prevention, hygiene and safety in the workplace functional unit. As regards monitoring and control activities from an environmental perspective, the councilor specified that in the event of a risk of a major accident, the competence lies with the Ministry of the Interior, which exercises it through the Regional Technical Committee (Ctr) at within which the Region has its own representative, while in the case of the Integrated Environmental Authorization (Aia) the competence lies with the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security, and how the Region expresses itself within the ministerial procedures, in agreement with the ‘Arpat.

“Not being able to question the Government directly, I turned to you in the hope of having some useful information available in this regard”. Thus regional councilor Silvia Noferi (M5S) began her speech, underlining how “if we are forced to talk about the issue of accidents at work again, there is obviously something that is still not working”.
