The Assises of mental health and psychiatry take place, Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 September 2021, in digital (viewable live on the website solidarités-sante.gouv.fr). Announced in January 2020 by Emmanuel Macron, they were postponed due to Covid-19. They ultimately take place in the context of an ever-active pandemic.
A global deterioration in mental health
This health crisis has highlighted the fragility of care and caused an overall deterioration in the mental health of the French (and the rest of the world).
According to survey results Coviprev, launched at the time of the first confinement in March 2020 to monitor the evolution of behavior and mental health of the French, 13% of them show signs of depression (three points more than outside the epidemic).
19% show signs of anxiety (six points more), 9% have had suicidal thoughts during the year (four points more).
One third of people followed
According to a CSA survey forUnafam (National union of families and friends of sick and / or mentally handicapped people), only a third of depressed people are followed by a professional.
On the one hand, for lack of treatment opportunity, but also for difficulty in accepting help, so strong are the social taboos concerning mental health.
Draw up an inventory
These national meetings are supposed to take stock of the situation and outline the orientations of psychiatry. A way to postpone the problem of funding (and the lack of caregivers) to the next term?
Several unions and collectives (South health, the Spring of psychiatry …) call for demonstrations on Tuesday in front of the Ministry of Health. In particular against the very principle of Assizes by videoconference.
