Apps that reward “soft” travel with money are on the rise in the country. This is the case of WeWard, which has nearly 5 million users in France. But once downloaded, the application is above all a motivation for walking and sports activity.
Walk to earn money, incredible but true. To motivate the French to move on foot, WeWard has devised a system of rewards. The French application, founded in 2019, counts its user’s steps which are then converted into points (wards). These tokens will provide access to vouchers or will be converted into euros and transferred to the walker’s bank account.
A reward of around β¬5 per month
In detail, 6,500 steps allow you to win around 10 wards, which represents 0.07 euro. By walking at full capacity every day, it is possible to accumulate an average of 5 euros per month. This daily practice could thus allow you to earn 60 euros over a year in your wallet. This sum can also be donated to charities supported by the application. βThere are also challenges which make it possible to earn more”, indicates to the ParisianYves Benchimol, founder of the WeWard application.
To energize city centers, the application has also forged partnerships with brands (Nike, Adidas, etc.), small traders, cultural venues… Today, the free app claims nearly five million French users. By way of comparison, the popular mobile game CandyCrush Saga has just under 2.5 million active monthly users in France.
