The Department of Health has vaccinated againsthuman papillomavirus (HPV) about 30,000 minors from the age of twelve in the province of Alicante; figure that rises to 86,000 throughout the Valencian Community, according to data provided by the General Directorate of Public Health on the occasion of the celebration this Monday, March 4, of the international awareness day about this virus.
This vaccine is indicated for prevention of genital warts, precancerous genital lesions (cervical, vulvar and vaginal), precancerous anal lesions, cervical cancer and anal cancer causally related to certain genotypes of the virus.

In the Valencian Community Systematic vaccination against this virus was introduced in 2008 in adolescent women. and, in subsequent revisions, the recommendation was included to maintain immunization in unvaccinated women until the age of 18, and in people with certain risk conditions. And in Valenciaa total of 25,105 young people received the first dose (12,457 boys and 12,648 girls), while 20,827 adolescents were administered the second dose (9,765 boys and 11,062 girls).
Vaccination in risk groups
In addition to vaccination in children under 12 years of age, during the past year more than 11,000 doses to people included in the risk groups in which vaccination is indicated (4,213 doses in Alicante, 1,287 doses in Castellón and 5,861 doses in Valencia).
The practices and risk groups in which vaccination is indicated are men who have sex with men (1,350 doses administered); women undergoing excisional treatment, that is, those who have had a preneoplastic injury previous (7,615 doses); women undergoing solid organ transplantation (165 doses); women undergoing parental transplant hematopoietic (79 doses); and people with symptomatic or asymptomatic HIV infection (2,152 doses).
