Health union leaders talk about strike

The leaders of the Alliance of Professional and Technical Personnel in Health and Social Services (APTS) intend to convince their 60,000 members to vote in favor of days of strike action.

Unionized workers will be offered, at a general meeting at the end of the month, to vote for a strike mandate of up to 10 days, the APTS said in a press release on Wednesday.

The union has served this warning as negotiations with the government of François Legault to improve working conditions have stalled, in his opinion.

“We have been trying to negotiate with the Legault government for 16 months and it has hardly budged. Worse, the proposals mentioned by the spokespersons of the Treasury Board constitute major setbacks, which would have the effect of increasing the work overload, ”denounced the first vice-president of the APTS, Emmanuel Breton.

The union and the government are currently in mediation to try to find common ground, but it will end on March 29. The strike proposal will then be presented to the members of the APTS, the union said, while the results of the vote will be known in mid-May.

The APTS brings together some 60,000 people who work in the health network, for example in diagnosis, rehabilitation, nutrition, psychosocial intervention, clinical support and prevention.
