Who is the TSRM?

Commonly known as a radiology technician, this figure arose from the need to outline the profiles of different health professionals in the 90s. Today these professionals are gathered under a single order: FNO TRSM PSTRP (National Federation of Orders of Health Technicians of medical radiology, of the technical health professions, of rehabilitation and prevention).

With Ministerial Decree n.746 of September 26, 1994, “Regulation concerning the identification of the figure and relative professional profile of the medical radiology technician”, the figure of the radiology technician was born. Finally, the Ministry of Health begins to outline the profiles of all professionals operating in the health sector.

Article 1.

In article 1 of the aforementioned decree, paragraph 1 identifies the figure of the medical radiology technician with the following profile: the radiology health technician is the health worker who holds the qualifying university diploma and registration in the register professional, is responsible for the acts of its competence and is authorized to carry out radiological investigations and services.

Paragraph 2 of article 1 follows: “The medical radiology technician is the health worker qualified to perform […] independently, or in collaboration with other health professionals, on medical prescription all interventions that require the use of ionizing radiation sources, both artificial and natural, of thermal, ultrasonic, nuclear magnetic resonance energies as well as interventions for physical or dosimetric protection.

In paragraph 3 of article 1 we find all the fields of interest; in fact: “The medical radiology technician:

  • participates in the planning and organization of work within the structure in which it operates in compliance with its competences;
  • plans and manages the provision of multipurpose services of its competence in direct collaboration with the radiodiagnostic doctor, with the nuclear doctor, with the radiotherapist and with the health physicist, according to diagnostic and therapeutic protocols previously defined by the head of the structure;
  • is responsible for the acts of its competence, in particular checking the correct functioning of the equipment entrusted to him, providing for the elimination of minor problems and implementing verification and control programs to guarantee quality according to predefined indicators and standards;
  • carries out its activity in public or private health facilities, in a dependent or freelance relationship.

Paragraph 4 of article 1 states that “The medical radiology technician contributes to the training of support staff and contributes directly to updating one’s professional profile and research.

Other articles.

Article 2 reads as follows: “By decree of the Ministry of Health the post-basic complementary training in relation to specific needs of the National Health Service “.

Article 3 states that: “The university diploma of medical radiology technician obtained pursuant to art. 6, paragraph 3, of the legislative decree 30 December 1992, n. 502, and subsequent amendments, enable to exercise of the profession upon registration in the professional register.

Last but not least, article 4 which speaks of the equivalence of qualifications: “By decree of the Minister of Health in agreement with the Minister of University and Scientific and Technological Research, diplomas and certificates are identified, obtained on the basis of to the previous system, which they are equivalent to a university degree referred to in art. 3 for the purpose of exercising the relative professional activity and access to public offices “.
