This Health Talk is one of the regular programs Azra Hospital which aims to campaign for its importance healthy living culture on social media. Through this program, it is hoped that the community will care and realize the importance of maintaining health in the body. In addition to discussing the importance of vitamin D, this time the Health Talk also discussed the origin of vitamins, which comes from the word Vita which means life and Amin which means Amino which means supporting human health in order to live.
According to dr. Roy, Vitamin D2 is the first vitamin D discovered. Vitamin D2 comes from plants, namely mushrooms. Then found Vitamin D3 which comes from animals. Then also found Vitamin D which is not only as a vitamin, but also as a hormone. Furthermore, Vitamin D is also known as the “sunshine” vitamin because the formation of Vitamin D is aided by the sun.
Further, Dr. Roy conveyed the Sun will make a type of cholesterol in our body, which is eventually formed into Vitamin D, Whether into D2 or D3. In the process the sun will form pre Vitamin D3 when it comes from animals, and then it will become Vitamin D2 when it comes from plants. The formed Vitamin D3 is carried to the liver, formed into Vitamin D 25 OH, then carried to the Kidneys formed into Vitamin D 1 25 OH. But the common one for screening is Vitamin D 25 OH.
dr. Roy Panusunan Sibarani, Sp.PD-KEMD, FES also explained the use of Vitamin D3, including for calcium metabolism, immune processes, and other metabolisms, for example sugar metabolism.
As an anti-infection, it kills germs, including tuberculosis, besides that there are also risk factors for vitamin D3 deficiency, including people who are rarely exposed to sunlight, sunscreen users, obese sufferers, food absorption disorders, breastfeeding mothers, pregnant women, people with kidney disease people with liver disorders and consuming certain drugs.
Dr. Roy Panusunan Sibarani, Sp.PD-KEMD, FES also explained that we cannot see the early symptoms of Vitamin D3 deficiency easily, it can only be predicted when there are risk factors. That is the importance of testing Vitamin D 25 OH in people who have risk factors, to avoid getting worse in the future, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. Covid-19 sufferers with lower levels of vitamin D3 will be at greater risk than Covid-19 sufferers with sufficient levels of Vitamin D3. Examination of Vitamin D 25 OH can be done in the AZRA Hospital laboratory.
At the Health Talk IG live event there were also many questions raised by the public, one of which was about autoimmune patients who were advised to do Vitamin D 25 OH examination, because if we have been consuming Vitamin D continuously, then there needs to be a limit and there needs to be a Vitamin D examination. 25 OH at the beginning and end of consumption of Vitamin D, which of course needs to be consulted first with a doctor. Besides that, dr. Roy Panusunan Sibarani, Sp.PD-KEMD, FES also conveyed that normal vitamin D3 levels in Indonesia, which is below 20 means low 20-30 means not enough, above 30 means it is good.
