The number of classes closed due to Covid cases had significantly increased last week but no outbreak observed at the beginning of the week.

While the health situation is becoming very worrying in some establishments in Hauts de France or Île de France, what about the Académie de Montpellier? The figures announced by the rectorate last Friday reported 98 classes closed (0.47% of classes) against 75 the previous week and 13 establishments closed instead of 5 eight days earlier. The increase was similar in terms of students with proven Covid cases: 764 against 530 (0.16% of students).

However, and in view of the low proportion of cases and closures (less than 1%), the rector Sophie Béjean, believes that “this increase is very relative compared to the general incidence rate and the situation remains under control. proves that our protocol is effective and limits the progression of the epidemic “.

Classes closed down this Tuesday in the Hérault

Of the 3,274 saliva tests carried out last week in the academy, only 0.061% tested positive. Many cases are revealed by tests carried out outside the establishment by families for suspected contact cases.

As a reminder, a class is closed if there are three proven covid cases among the students or one case of a Brazilian or South African variant. If certain departments were to go into confinement, such as nineteen departments including the Hauts de France, then a proven case would suffice to close a class.

The rectorate did not observe an outbreak at the start of the week. The number of closed classes in the Hérault (36 last Thursday) even dropped, falling below 30 on Tuesday. “We remain vigilant, the figures can quickly rise even if we do not observe to date a large cluster”, concludes the rector, Sophie Béjean.
