Chetumal, May 19, 2022.- The State Health Services (SESA) join forces to make available and accessible screening methods that timely detect the cancers that most affect women.

The first, he added, is the clinical breast examination, which must be performed annually on the female population between 25 and 39 years old, and the second, the mammography, which must be performed every two years on women between 40 and 69 years old. .
On the other hand, for the timely detection of cervical cancer there are two tests, cytology performed on women between 25 and 34 years of age and the human papillomavirus (HPV) test, performed on women between 35 and 64 years of age.
The main alarm data for breast cancer and in which you should go immediately to the nearest health unit are the following: solid, irregular nodules or balls, with a hard consistency, obvious skin changes (orange peel, retraction of the skin, areolar lesion that does not heal despite treatment).
Other signs and symptoms are discharge from the nipple, growth of nodes axillary or above the clavicle, and retraction or fixation of the nipple.
Persistent human papillomavirus infection increases the risk of developing cervical cancer. In the initial stage it does not produce signs or symptoms.
The HPV virus can develop cellular alterations known as dysplasias or intraepithelial lesions, which can be precursors to cancer.
Through cytology and Papanicolaou, these lesions can be identified in a timely manner and treated, thereby interrupting the natural history of the disease and preventing cervical cancer.

The SESA offers mammography free of charge all year round to women affiliated with Insabi, or who do not have entitlement to Unemes’s Dedicam (Chetumal and Cancún) and hospitals that have a mammography service (Hospital Integral de José María Morelos, Hospital General of Playa del Carmen and Comprehensive Hospital of Kantunilkín).
