There are more private health facilities in the UAE today than public ones. Complex medical care is possible in all private hospitals. The nursing staff are qualified. These are usually expatriates who are able to speak English. Private hospitals do not always manage major trauma, certain complex emergencies and other pathologies in particular. This is largely in the public domain.
In some emirates such as Abu Dhabi and Dubai, expatriates are required by law to have private health insurance. Companies are expected to contribute to it. Although they are not obliged to take care of the spouses and children of employees, they are encouraged to do so by the government. Expats are advised to purchase comprehensive health insurance before moving to UAE.
