Winter Vaccination Campaign in Mexicali: A Thorough Effort to Protect vulnerable Populations
As the winter season unfolds, the Ministry of Health in Mexicali has taken important strides to safeguard public health through an extensive vaccination campaign. With a total of 853,614 winter season vaccines administered, the initiative underscores the government’s commitment to protecting its most vulnerable citizens.
Adrián Mediano Amarillas, the Secretary of Health, revealed that 642,401 doses of the anti-influenza vaccine were distributed across the region.Mexicali led the charge with 189,844 doses, followed by Tijuana at 297,486, Tecate with 28,180, Rosarito beaches at 19,066, Ensenada with 83,201, and San Quintín at 24,624.
Along with influenza, the campaign also prioritized COVID-19 vaccinations, administering 145,439 doses to date. Of these, 65,774 doses were specifically allocated to vulnerable groups. The pneumococcus vaccine was also made available, further bolstering the region’s defenses against seasonal illnesses.
The influenza vaccine is recommended for children aged 6 months to 5 years, pregnant women, and older adults. Meanwhile, the COVID-19 and pneumococcus vaccines target adults over 60 years old, individuals aged 18 to 59 with comorbidities, and first responders.
“It is indeed significant to create immunity, especially in the most vulnerable population,” emphasized Amarillas. “Thus, the continuous active campaign invites everyone to protect themselves through vaccination.”
The Ministry of Health has reiterated that all vaccines are available free of charge in the public sector, ensuring accessibility for all residents.
