Health reports an additional death and 345 hospitalized by COVID-19

The Health Department reported today, Sunday, an additional death from COVID-19bringing the total accumulated in this line to 4,480 since the pandemic began in March 2020.

Health will report deaths from the SARS-CoV-2 virus using new definitions of vaccination status. The new descriptions are: unvaccinated, without up-to-date vaccinations (has not received any of the required doses or their boosters), with up-to-date vaccinations.

Details about the deceased person’s vaccination status and demographic data will be updated at noon on the health portal.

At the moment, the daily average of deaths in Puerto Rico – in a period of seven days – is four.

Since the Federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA, in English) authorized the use of vaccines against COVID-19, the scientific and medical community affirmed that the drug did not prevent infection with the virus, but it did reduce the chances of suffering from severe symptoms and death.

On the other hand, the dependency reported 345 people hospitalized, which is 25 fewer patients in the past 24 hours.

The total breaks down into 300 adult and 45 pediatric cases, the agency said.

For a date like today, three months ago, there were only 35 adult patients hospitalized, according to the data portal.

Meanwhile, the preliminary positivity rate – updated at 6:00 am – amounts to 32.12%. Yesterday, Saturday, this line amounted to 30.77%. The figure remains well above the 5% recommended by the World Health Organization (OMS).
