Health: opening of intermediate care units and running evening clinics a

The Ministry of Health and Population has reviewed, in the last three months, the work of efficiency improvement and development of the services of the General Secretariat for Mental Health Hospitals, which has included the increase in the capacity of beds for the treatment of drug-addicted patients of the Assiut Mental Health Hospital, with 32 beds, in the context of the State’s interest in the fight and treatment of addictions.

In a press release, Dr. Menen Abdel-Maqsoud, City Secretary General for Mental Health and Addiction Treatment, noted the opening of intermediate care units for patients with addictions in Abbasiya, Airport and Mamoura hospitals, in preparation for the implementation of the they give reduction policies in an integrated way within the hospitals of the Municipality.

He said evening clinics were being run in 8 hospitals, affiliated with the Mental Health Secretariat, to provide addiction treatment services, as well as starting the trial operation of outpatient clinics at Imbaba Hospital for treatment and rehabilitation of patients with addictions, in preparation for the official opening of the centre.
Menen explained that mental health and addiction treatment services were provided through the “Recovery” program through treatment sessions during the patients’ rehabilitation period. To ensure the provision of a minimum level of therapeutic skills and information to help patients recover.
He added that the “Recovery” program provides for the introduction of therapeutic culture skills, and the modification of behaviors necessary for a coexistence without drugs, confirming the offer of a series of services and training and awareness activities in the field of treatment of addictions. This contributes to the integration of patients into society after completion of the treatment program.
Dr Munen Abdel-Maqsoud said Council is working to provide community patient care, which includes psychological rehabilitation services, aftercare and relapse prevention services, as well as occupational rehabilitation (occupational therapy) and physical rehabilitation (therapy sporty).
He added that the hospitals of the Mental Health and Addiction Treatment Secretariat awarded 288 healers, within 3 months, at the level of the governorates of the Republic, in collaboration with the Fund for the fight and treatment of addictions and abuses.
