Health network: scholarships to attract nursing students

Quebec is setting up a scholarship to encourage nursing students enrolled in the baccalaureate to come and lend a hand to the health network, overwhelmed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The proposed measure aims to allow students to slow down their studies and suspend their internships for the winter 2021 session, on a voluntary basis, to come and work in the health network.

Up to 2,000 students could benefit from this measure, the objective of which is to increase the availability of future nurses to help the health network, as of January.

“With this new measure, we are calling on nursing students to invite them to come and support our teams in place,” Minister of Health and Social Services Christian Dubé said in a statement on Monday.

“Volunteers will be welcome: their invaluable help over the coming months will help us better meet the needs of patients, whether they have COVID-19 or other health problems,” added Mr. Dubé. .

“The higher education network must join forces with the health and social services network to bring more nursing labor into the field, while doing what is necessary to facilitate the course of studies for these people.” when they resume, ”Minister of Higher Education Danielle McCann said.

The investment will cost the Department of Health and Social Services $ 35 million, of which $ 27 million will be injected into the scholarship program. Full-time students will receive a scholarship of $ 13,500 and part-time students will receive half the amount.

Beneficiaries of this measure must undertake to work full time in a public or private establishment under agreement between January 17 and May 8, 2021.
