Health – Munich – Bavaria is preparing for vaccinations for children – Bavaria

Munich / Berlin (dpa / lby) – Bavaria is preparing, together with the medical profession and the vaccination centers, to vaccinate children from the age of five. Bavaria’s Minister of Health, Klaus Holetschek, pointed this out in Berlin on Wednesday evening. The CSU politician announced: “We are here in close consultation with the professional association of paediatricians, who will support us in this.” He thinks it is “a positive and important development if the vaccine could also be used for children under the age of 12 in the future.”

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) is expected to approve the Biontech / Pfizer vaccine for children aged five and over this week. According to the acting Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn (CDU), 2.4 million doses of the vaccine for five to eleven year olds are to be made available to the federal states in a first delivery from December 20. The Standing Vaccination Commission (Stiko) wants to make its recommendation on corona vaccination for children in this age group before the end of the year.

“It will be possible to vaccinate both local pediatricians, general practitioners and vaccination centers,” said Holetschek. At the same time, he asked parents to be patient: “One thing is clear: the vaccine will not be available next week.”

Michael Hubmann from the professional association of paediatricians added: “With the recommendation for admission, a very important time begins for our members in the preparation for the vaccinations of the youngest in our society. We will advise the ministry and are already there now ready to speak to parents and their children in order to make the value of the vaccination – also for our youngest – clear once again. “
