“Health Minister Veena George Orders Name of Deceased Doctor Vandana Das on New Kerala Hospital Block; State Cabinet to Issue Ordinance Protecting Hospital Staff”

Thiruvananthapuram: Dr. Kottarakkara Taluk Hospital’s new block. Name of Vandana Das will be given. Health Minister Veena George has instructed the Director of Health Department in this regard. The action is a tribute to the doctor who was stabbed to death in the line of duty.

The next state cabinet meeting will issue an ordinance regarding the law to protect hospital staff and health workers from attacks. The Ordinance will incorporate the recommendations of the High Court. The opinion of the health university will also be sought.

The ordinance will ensure strict punishment for attacks on health workers. The decision was taken in a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

The health department has started an investigation into the murder of Dr. Vandana Das. The investigation is being led by Deputy District Medical Officer Rajan Mathew. He went to Kottarakkara Taluk Hospital and collected the evidence. The statements of the hospital staff who were on duty at the time of the incident were recorded. The incident and the safety of the hospital are being investigated.
