Kochi> Health Minister Veena George has directed the director of the health department to conduct an investigation into the sexual assault complaint of a female doctor against a senior doctor at the Ernakulam General Hospital. The minister intervened after noticing the post of the female doctor on social media. The director of the health department was instructed to report the matter to the police. The health department was instructed to conduct an investigation to find out the details including whether the complaint was concealed. The vigilance wing of the health department will conduct an investigation. In 2019, a female doctor made an allegation on Facebook that a senior doctor had groped her and forcibly kissed her on the face while performing house surgery. A verbal complaint was made to the hospital authorities the day after the unexpected behavior of the doctor. As he was a senior officer and was afraid of not getting the certificate, he could not file any further complaint that day. The female doctor wrote on Facebook that she is posting now that the doctor has moved from the general hospital. Hospital Superintendent R Shaheersha said that after noticing the Facebook post, more information was sought from the complainant and the female doctor has lodged a complaint with the director of the health department.
