1,000 blood donations in six days is the goal set by the French Blood Establishment, the EFS. Until Friday, a 250 m² marquee is set up in the Old Port near the shadehouse. This is one of the largest annual collections organized in the Bouches-du-Rhône, and the largest in Marseille. “Our Region is part with the Ile-de-France of those in deficit in terms of blood collection. We consume more than we produce. Being on the Old Port will allow us to attract a lot of people and especially people who have never gone to donate blood, confides Brice Mollaret, Head of sampling activity for the EFS. It is enough to be between 18 and 70 years old to be a donor. On arrival in the tents, health professionals check whether there are any contraindications. It is quite common to meet people who think they are not fit to donate blood when they are.“It takes an hour of your day, the time to fill out questionnaires”but this hour will save three peopleand by Brice Mollart.
With the help of the Rotary charity association, the marquee is open six afternoons, from 1:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The place is surrounded by metal barriers materializing the location. Activities are also offered and organized by Rotary to attract passers-by: DJs, dancers and even musicians. Twenty-five members of the association will also be deployed in the surrounding streets to encourage people circulating in the city center to go to the place of the animation and the collection and to promote the event. A few hours after the opening of the marquee, attendance was not yet at its peak yesterday, but the organizers were confident: “It takes time for people to notice us“, analyzes Jean Marzuk member of the Rotary.
