Ludwigshafen (dpa / lrs) – In the corona crisis, players and employees of the handball Bundesliga club Eulen Ludwigshafen waive part of their salary. “The owls are sending a big signal of solidarity with the club in order to relieve the economic situation,” said the Palatinate association on Monday evening. Due to the corona pandemic, the handball Bundesliga is initially suspended until the end of April. For the club, the current situation – just like for many medium-sized companies and other clubs – threatens their existence.
Owing to the omission of the games, the owls were missing entry fees and sponsorship revenues at an as yet unknown level. Therefore, the waiver of salary is an important and not self-evident step to make the club possible to continue.
Last weekend, THW Ludwigshafen set up camp beds at the club’s venue, the Friedrich-Ebert-Halle, for possible treatment of future people infected with the new coronavirus. “Where the owls Ludwigshafen normally fight for points in the first handball league, there are now plots for patients that hopefully will never be needed,” said the technical aid agency. According to the Ministry of Health in Mainz, 17 Sars CoV-2 cases were confirmed in Ludwigshafen by Monday (March 23, 11:00 a.m.).
