Health launches the national polio vaccination campaign to target 16.5 million tomorrow

The Ministry of Health and Population launches the national campaign to vaccinate against polio for Egyptians and non-Egyptians “residing on the land of Egypt” from the age of one day until 5 years free for a period of 4 days, starting tomorrow, Sunday.

The Ministry of Health indicated that the national campaign to vaccinate against polio will be implemented in all governorates of the Republic and target approximately 16.5 million children, noting that vaccination in the countryside will be from house to house to reach all targeted children, while cities are vaccinated by mobile teams in the streets with The presence of fixed teams in health centers, health offices, rural units, and maternity and child care centers, until five o’clock.

Fixed teams will be placed next to mosques, churches, clubs, markets, train stations and subways, travel parks and public parks, and more than 3,300 vehicles will be provided to transport vaccination teams to their locations.

It is noteworthy that the last case of polio was recorded in Egypt in 2004, and the World Health Organization announced that Egypt is free from the disease in 2006, and despite this the Ministry of Health and Population implements annual national campaigns to raise the immune status of children under five years and to raise immunity between Non-Egyptian children coming from countries where polio virus is present, in order to keep Egypt free from disease

The Ministry of Health stated that immunization programs against infectious diseases are among the most important priorities of health systems to prevent diseases of epidemic importance, and is considered one of the most important components of public health within the framework of sustainable development goals in the field of health care, in line with international standards in order to preserve the health of citizens.
