GridHEALTH.id – On a global scale, tuberculosis (TB) and malaria (Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever/DHF) remain a scourge that causes tremendous suffering even though they are declared endemic (the virus will always be there).
This is because climate change and global warming in recent years have led to an increasing incidence tropical disease.
The increase in world air temperature plays a role in the spread of tropical disease and disease vectors. A number of tropical disease These include, among others, diarrhea caused by rotavirus, elephantiasis (filarial), leprosy, dengue fever, malaria, flu, tuberculosis, hepatitis, and fungal diseases.
“These diseases are found mainly in poor and marginalized countries,” said a microbiologist at the UGM Faculty of Medicine, dr. Abu Tholib, M.Sc., Ph.D., Sp.MK(K), on the sidelines of the International Symposium on Molecular Medicine Tropical Diseases, Wednesday (17/3/2021), at UGM Faculty of Medicine, as quoted from the ugm.ac.id website.
Tholib said, TB is a tropical disease which still has a high incidence in the country, even the third highest in the world.
The problem for experts is that some TB diseases are resistant to drugs commonly used so far.

“This resistant TB has appeared for quite a long time and the drug is still very limited because the price is quite expensive,” he said.
Besides tuberculosis, other tropical diseases, such as dengue fever, are still a threat to death. In addition, in the last 50 years there has not been a vaccine yet.
“DHF is very complicated, it attacks young children, now it attacks adults. There is no vaccine for dengue fever and no cure for dengue. So far only anticipated shockher, while the virus itself is overcome by her body,” he added.
The same opinion was also expressed by dr. Tri wibawa, Ph.D. as chairman of the symposium committee. He said that in the last 30 years, the incidence of dengue cases has increased by 50 times.

Tri also mentioned that currently there are 1,400 kinds of drugs registered with world health and drug authorities. However, the proportion of drugs for tropical disease they account for less than one percent of all drugs in the world.
