Health insurers compensate hospital for lost income due to the corona crisis NOW

Dutch health insurers will reimburse the contracted income that hospitals have missed due to the corona crisis. Hospitals may also request extra support from insurers if they are shown in the red. Health insurers Netherlands (ZN), the Dutch Federation of University Medical Centers (NFU) and the Dutch Hospitals Association (NVZ) report that Friday in a press release.

ZN, the NFU and the NVZ reached an agreement on Friday during negotiations about these support measures. In total, the aid can amount to several billion euros.

In a press release, ZN indicates that they want to agree that hospital care can continue as normal and that hospitals can focus on restarting regular care.

With the new scheme, 2020 should be the same year for hospitals financially as years without the corona crisis.

NVZ reports that the agreements need to be further refined in the near future. After that, the parties will monitor compliance with the agreements.
