DSW is the first to announce the health insurance premium each year, and is therefore a guideline for other health insurers. For fear of competition, they often only let them know just before the deadline of 12 November which bill their customers will receive in the new year.
The increase in premiums is mainly due to rising costs in health care, including increased wages of health care personnel and an increasing use of expensive medicines. Another part of the premium increase is because DSW can no longer draw on its reserves, which meant that the insurer kept the premium low in previous years.
Minister Tamara van Ark (Medical Care) simultaneously announced that the group discount on health insurance will expire from 2023.
