The Independent Health Insurance Fund (OZ) has been hit by a cyber attack, which gave hackers access to customer data. OZ reports this in a press release on Friday. The data breach was closed immediately after it was discovered.

Hackers deliberately looked for vulnerabilities in the security system during this attack, OZ said. In combination with a human error, data linked to the online platform “My OZ”, an online office with which certain transactions with the health insurance fund are arranged, could be viewed. The health insurance fund emphasizes that it does not concern medical records. The data breach was immediately patched and the leaked data was not made public.

“We deeply regret this attack,” said Rik Selleslaghs, general manager of OZ Groep. “We take the protection of personal data very seriously. Tonight our customers were informed. We will continue to do everything we can to avoid another breach.”

OZ will file a complaint with the CERT, the Cyber Emergency Team of the federal government. The Data Protection Authority was also informed. Customers who have questions can call this weekend on 03 201 85 55.
