Severe migraine attacks: Triptans for headaches, nausea and vomiting: Four active ingredients from the triptan group of substances are currently the most effective migraine medications for oral intake: Eletriptan, Rizatriptan, Sumatriptan and Zolmitriptan. This is the result of a current meta-analysis by researchers at the Danish Headache Center in Copenhagen. However, many sufferers treat their migraine attacks with other painkillers: 46 percent take ibuprofen, 17 percent paracetamol, ten percent acetylsalicylic acid and only seven percent triptans. The German Society for Neurology therefore advocates using triptans more widely and providing patients with better information. Iodine supply: Which foods provide the important trace element? In Germany, 32 percent of adults and 44 percent of children are at risk of iodine deficiency. The important trace element cannot be produced by the body itself, but is needed by the thyroid to produce hormones. What are the health consequences of an iodine deficiency? Why has supply deteriorated again in recent years? What do you have to pay attention to in your diet, which foods contain a lot of iodine? “Health!” answers the most important questions. Menopause: How do women get through menopause well? Hot flashes, mood swings, sleep disorders – menopause is often still a taboo topic. Jacqueline from Berlin sees this phase of life as “worse than pregnancy”. She fights against sleep disorders, mood swings and hot flashes. “I notice that I’ve gotten old,” says the 51-year-old saleswoman. Her gynecologist suggests hormone therapy, but Jacqueline is unsure: What are the advantages and disadvantages of hormone therapy? Are there alternatives? Fall prevention: How can you prevent falls in old age? The muscles become weaker, the gait becomes less stable, the eyesight worsens – with increasing age the risk of losing one’s balance also increases. Almost a third of seniors over 65 fall at least once a year. Broken bones and other injuries are the result. Most dangerous falls occur within your own four walls. “Health!” reporter Fero Andersen visits a couple who tested digital technology and assistance systems in their home for a study by the Deggendorf University of Applied Sciences. He also talks to experts who work on fall prevention and learns how to train your balance.
