The primary health insurance funds of P.-O. and Aude offer, at the Lézignan-Corbières medical center, twice a month, examinations for people far from care to provide complete assessments of their general condition. A way to fight against social but also territorial inequalities.
Because they no longer have attending doctors or the practicing practitioners are too far from their homes; because they are isolated and cannot move; because they have few resources and it is impossible for them to advance the costs of their vision or dental care, too many people give up on treatment. With a corollary: the appearance of serious pathologies (diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, cancers, etc.). And Aude, a rural department classified among the poorest in the Metropolis, does not escape this sad public health observation: “25% of the population is over 65 years old, is therefore potentially more fragile, and we estimate at 35 % people who give up care”, specifies Antoine Bourdon, director of the Primary Health Insurance Fund (CPAM) of Aude.

“Maintain the link to access to care”
This is the reason why a health examination center has just been created in Lézignan, in the premises of the on-call medical center, in association with the CPAM des P.-O., initiator of the centers implemented. in the former Languedoc-Roussillon, the Community of Communes of the Lézignanaise Corbières-Minervois region (CCRCLM), owner of the premises, and the departmental council. “These centers have existed since 1945, indicated Valérie Gayte, deputy director of the CPAM des P.-O., during the opening of the center, Wednesday November 8. But we have seen, since the Covid episode, the importance of maintain this link of access to care”.

Two half days per month
Also, from now on, for two half-days per month, completely free consultations will be offered to those who, over the last four or five years, have not received treatment. “Check-ups will be carried out to know their general state of health and the steps to access a GP will be made easier,” underlined Isabelle Géa, vice-president of the CCRLCM in charge of Health. Furthermore, in conjunction with the Departmental Solidarity House, prevention workshops will also be offered.
Which exam ?
The CPAM health examination centers are offered by multidisciplinary teams who listen to patients in the same location. During the consultation, a receptionist informs patients about their health rights and supports them, if necessary, in their procedures (vital card, complementary health insurance, declaration from the attending physician, etc.). Health professionals (doctors, nurses) then address visitors’ concerns by answering their questions before carrying out medical examinations and biological analyzes if necessary. The doctor then considers the follow-up to be given to the preventive health examination (treating doctor, tobacco specialists, addictologist, etc.) and also explains the report. For all information and registrations, call 04 68 35 99 00.
“An issue of general interest”
“It is an issue of general interest, underlined Valérie Dumontet, vice-president of the departmental council. Access to care is even the third mission of the United Nations (UN)”. Comments echoed by his colleague and departmental advisor, Sébastien Gasparini: “It is important to mobilize energies to rebuild, to reweave the link of access to care”.
For the moment, the second and fourth Wednesday of each month have been reserved for consultations scheduled at the Lézignan health examination center.
