The Basque Minister of Health, Nekane Murga, has stated that work is already underway to identify health professionals who have been able to use any of the defective masks that had already been distributed in the Basque Country. Murga said that 124,000 units of the Garry Galaxy brand were received from the Ministry of Health, which is where the problem was detected, and 13,200 were distributed, although “not all are defective.”
In a telematic press conference to update the daily data of the pandemic, Murga has also been questioned by the Defective Garry Galaxy masks distributed from the Ministry of Health throughout the State.
The Basque counselor has acknowledged that the aforementioned masks did not have the “filter capacity” that was included in their characteristics and stressed that once the alert was received, the Basque Government proceeded to withdraw it from all hospitals.
As detailed, the total number of Garry Galaxy brand masks received from the Ministry of Health amounted to 124,000, although it is not known “exactly the batches and which are defective.”
However, around 13,200 masks had already been distributed in health centers and some institution from which “some of them have already been collected”, although not all are defective.
“At the moment we are working to identify it, monitor it and take measures to reduce risks among professionals who have been able to use them,” he added.
