Freiburg (dpa / lsw) – The Freiburg infectiologist Roland Elling has spoken out against a general vaccination recommendation in the dispute over the vaccination of children. Children are exposed to a very low risk when infected with the coronavirus, Elling told the “Badische Zeitung” (Thursday). “So you have to weigh up: the risk to children from an infection on the one hand and the safety of the vaccination on the other.” There is still little knowledge about possible side effects of the active ingredient from Biontech, which is already approved for adolescents in the USA. He thinks it is premature to derive a general vaccination recommendation for children from this approval, said the doctor who works at the Freiburg University Hospital.

At a vaccination summit this Thursday, Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) and the Prime Minister want to advise on corona vaccinations for children, among other things. While there are indications that the Standing Vaccination Commission (Stiko) could not make a general vaccination recommendation for all children, there were demands for a quick vaccination offer on the other hand.
