Health – Freiburg im Breisgau – Freiburg also prohibits gathering – health

Freiburg (dpa / lsw) – After several actions against the Corona policy in southern Baden were banned, Freiburg followed suit at the weekend and banned a planned “lateral thinking” meeting at short notice. The city had originally allowed the event on the square of the Old Synagogue under certain conditions, but then feared that too many participants would come.

Previously, the initiators of a “lateral thinking” demo in Weil am Rhein had failed before the Federal Constitutional Court with their plan to bring down a ban. A silent march with representatives of the “lateral thinking” movement on Sunday in Stuttgart with up to 500 participants, however, is permitted subject to conditions.

The Office for Public Order in Freiburg appealed to new findings from the police on Saturday morning. Accordingly, after the ban on other events – in addition to Weil am Rhein also in Rheinfelden and Lörrach – significantly more participants can be expected. Instead of the originally planned 200, with which compliance with the hygiene rules would have been possible, more than 1000 were expected.

The attempt of the initiators to overturn the ban on the demonstration in Weil am Rhein with registered 3570 participants had previously failed. After the corresponding applications to the administrative courts were unsuccessful, the Federal Constitutional Court rejected an urgent application on Saturday morning.

According to their own statements, the police were in action in Weil am Rhein and in Freiburg to prevent possible unauthorized gatherings. Initially, nothing was known of any major incidents.

The city of Stuttgart approved the silent march on Sunday subject to certain conditions. No more than 500 people are allowed to participate, and everyone must adhere to the distance rules. If this is not possible, the mask requirement also applies. The meeting was registered by a private person from Schwäbisch Gmünd. She would like the march to be understood as a “demonstration to preserve democracy”. It is also advertised on the homepage of the movement “lateral thinking711”.
