Health – Freiburg im Breisgau – ban on demonstrations in Freiburg and Weil: silent march allowed – health

Freiburg / Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – After several actions against the Corona policy in southern Baden were banned, Freiburg followed suit at the weekend and banned a planned “lateral thinking” meeting at short notice. The city had originally allowed the event on the square of the Old Synagogue under certain conditions, but then feared that too many participants would come. The police had to intervene at times because people were still gathering. Overall, it was said to have remained peaceful. A silent march with representatives of the “lateral thinking” movement in Stuttgart was allowed to take place on Sunday subject to conditions.

On Saturday morning, the initiators of a “lateral thinking” demonstration in Weil am Rhein before the Federal Constitutional Court failed with their plan to bring down a ban on their event, which had been registered for 3750 participants. There had also been no permission for further planned meetings in the region.

The Office for Public Order in Freiburg then feared that significantly more participants could come to the city. Instead of the originally planned 200, with which compliance with the hygiene rules would have been possible, more than 1000 were expected.

The police said they were in action in both Freiburg and Weil am Rhein. In Freiburg, the personal details of a group of around 80 people were recorded and investigative proceedings were initiated for violating the ban on meetings and the Corona Ordinance.

The city of Stuttgart approved the silent march on Sunday subject to certain conditions. The meeting was registered by a private person from Schwäbisch Gmünd who wanted the march to be understood as a “demonstration to preserve democracy”. It was also advertised on the homepage of the movement “Quer Think711”. According to the police, there were no special incidents until the afternoon.
