Freiburg (dpa / lsw) – The Freiburg auxiliary bishop Peter Birkhofer called for a service on Palm Sunday to think of the lonely people in isolation in times of the coronavirus pandemic. The helpers should also be considered, “who risk their health in order to care for, heal, care for, protect,” said the archdiocese.
Because of the corona restrictions, the Auxiliary Bishop celebrated the service in the Freiburg Minster in private and in small groups. The faithful were able to celebrate Palm Sunday online with a livestream. “Wherever we are physically together to immediately share the sadness and joy of Palm Sunday … we are unfortunately unable to meet directly.” It is therefore all the more important to “start together internally” in order to overcome the apparent physical separation.
Holy Week began on Palm Sunday in the Catholic Church, culminating in Easter.
