Health – Freiburg im Breisgau – At the end of the holiday, the corona test site on A5 – Health continued to rush

Neuchâtel (dpa / lsw) – The corona test site on Autobahn 5 near Neuchâtel (Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald) once again recorded a strong rush of travelers returning to Baden-Württemberg at the end of the holiday. The police had to forward hundreds of people willing to test to avoid a traffic jam on the highway. A particularly large number of people came from the southwest, where school will start again this Monday, as Andreas Formella, Deputy Managing Director of the DRK regional association, said on Sunday. “There was a lot of incomprehension among many who wanted to go back to work at the beginning of the week.” The numbers at the test station had already risen after the Robert Koch Institute declared large parts of France to be risk areas on Wednesday.

Last Friday, according to the DRK, more than 2,100 people were tested, 500 to 600 were turned away for reasons of space; on Saturday there were also more than 2100 people tested and 500 who were forwarded. Similar values were calculated for Sunday. Drivers waited up to an hour for the smear. You can call up the result within at least 48 hours.

People who have been waved past the rest area with the station can be tested in other test centers or in specialized practices. Since the swab for those returning from risk areas can be taken within 72 hours of entering the country, it does not necessarily have to be done on the return trip from vacation, emphasized the DRK.

The test center in Neuchâtel counted over 55,000 people tested from the opening on August 14th to Sunday afternoon.

The offer of free corona tests for travelers returning from non-risk areas ends this Tuesday. From then on, this option is only available to those returning from risk areas. According to the DRK, the test site on the A5 is still open for this group of people until September 30th.

After the main travel season, according to the Ministry of Health, the capacities of the helpers, doctors and laboratory staff must be used specifically for people who are exposed to a higher risk of infection. These are, for example, educators, teachers and people who work and live in nursing homes, explained department head Manne Lucha (Greens). According to Lucha, those who return from non-risk areas should be careful for the next two weeks, reduce social contacts and strictly observe the rules of hygiene.
