Frankfurt / Main (dpa / lhe) – During court hearings, a judge can require everyone in the hall to wear a mask to protect against corona infections. The Frankfurt regional court has rejected a lawyer’s complaint against such an order, as stated in a statement on Thursday. Accordingly, a presiding judge at the Frankfurt District Court had ordered that a “surgical mask or higher protection class” or, if necessary, a “thick cotton cloth” should be worn during the entire hearing.
According to the notification, the judges decided that the order was lawful due to the “current spread of the corona virus”. Wearing a mask was to be seen as “a nuisance” that did not prevent the lawyer from speaking orally. The presiding judge also gave the opportunity to participate in the hearing via video conference, it said.
According to the lawyer, the complaint was not directed against wearing a mask, but against the type of protection class. The district court decided, however, that the order of the judge at the district court showed that an everyday mask was sufficient.
