Diana Sierra, coordinator of the National Immunization Program of the Ministry of Health, after a summons with deputies this Monday, November 22, explained how the application of third or booster doses against covid-19 will be carried out.

He added that they asked that as of the 29th the system is ready so that the operational part can enter the doses and this goes for the reinforcement of front-line personnel, the elderly and people with comorbidities, both minors and over 18 years.

He said the interval for the third dose is six months after the second and if the person was vaccinated with AstraZeneca, they should meet their third dose with that same brand.

He announced that the only one who is going to vary for the booster is Sputnik V. “So your third dose of Sputnik is AstraZeneca,” he reported.

According to estimates, it would be between 3,000 and 5,000 booster doses for first-line personnel, older adults are more numerous, but it has lagged behind with the second, so the scheme needs to be completed.

The application of the reinforcement could begin in December, the official added.

On another issue, he indicated that the amount of Sputnik V vaccine that is committed for this year will be received and although he does not have the schedule, he said that it is clear that the 8 million will enter, 4 of the first and the same amount of the second component .

When asked if there are complications to store that amount of vaccines, he affirmed that although internally they have some type of complication, this has been solved.

Arrival of Modern vaccine

Sierra informed that he indicated that the entry could be between November 23 and 24 because the flights are early or late.

This expected income would be 2 million doses. In the summons, he indicated that other batches of Pfizer vaccines await in December and January. Both apply to minors between 12 and 17 years old.

On Thursday, November 18, 1,150 doses of Pfizer vaccines arrived in Guatemala, which will be used for second doses pending in adolescents and pregnant women, whose schedule has now not been completed.
