Health enables 200 more blood donation points during the summer campaign

The Minister of Universal Health and Public Health, Miguel Mínguez, attended this morning the presentation of the summer campaign of the Transfusion Center of the Valencian Community (CTCV), which starts this Wednesday with the aim of collect more than 26,000 units of blood until August. The CTCV has enabled for this purpose, in addition to the usual points, more than 200 typical summer locations to facilitate donation.

For this reason, Mínguez has encouraged citizens to continue demonstrating, also in summer, “their generosity and altruism” and has taken the opportunity to once again “thank the health personnel for their work in making it possible.”

Likewise, the Minister of Health has highlighted that “the citizens of the Valencian Community for years have shown a special solidarity in donation. This solidarity in the non-holiday period is stable, it is easily consolidated, and we have considered it opportune bring blood collection points closer to people who are on vacation to facilitate the donation”.

In this sense, Mínguez wanted to insist on the importance of the donation, and stated that “Blood donation means saving lives right now. Diseases, bleeding injuries or serious injuries do not rest in summer. Therefore, it is absolutely essential to bring the collection points closer to the people, since there is a predisposition of the people to donate”, he indicated.

In this sense, the director of the CTCV, Cristina Arbona, He recalled that “it is not only about caring for victims of traffic accidents or emergency surgeries, but also for cancer patients, scheduled surgeries, people with chronic anemia and other pathologies that require regular blood transfusions”.

Pre-pandemic levels are recovered

The Transfusion Center of the Valencian Community (CTCV) has obtained, since last January, a total of 79,395 units of blood among the three provinces. Specifically, 44,520 units in Valencia, 26,758 in Alicante and 8,117 units in Castelló. Also, almost 8,000 volunteers who donated for the first time.

Regarding gender, in 2021, 55.68% of men and 44.32% of women donated. The percentages are more even if you take into account that women can only donate three times a year and men, four.

By age ranges; 26.2% of donors were between 18 and 35 years old; the group between 36 and 45 years concentrated 23.4% of the donors, and those aged between 46 and 65 years old represented 50.4%.
