Health, elderly people, early childhood… elected officials from the Aude Pyrenees present their projects to the President of the Department

On Thursday, September 19, Hélène Sandragné met with the office of the intercommunality of the Pyrénées audoises. The goal: to learn about the projects that social contractualization and its envelope of 100,000 euros will allow to finance. Overview

Apartments above the Health Center

The visit of the President of the Department began with the Multi-professional Health Center (MSP). On the upper floor of this place that has become essential for Espéraza and its catchment area, rooms in their original state, which require major renovation. “We would like to make apartments there to accommodate medical students or interns, says Christian Soula, mayor of the commune and vice-president of the inter-municipality. The difficulty in finding accommodation was presented as an obstacle by the various young people we were able to meet.”

In the envelope of 100,000 euros allocated by the Department to the intercommunality of the Aude Pyrenees as part of the social contractualization, 35,000 euros will be dedicated to this work, the importance of which is crucial for the territory, which is short of doctors.

Improving daycare centers

On the nursery side, 6,500 euros will be taken from this grant to reimburse part of the work already carried out. Thus, acoustic panels have been installed on the ceilings of the four nurseries managed by the intercommunality. “The feedback is extremely positive, says Marie Dosso, childhood and youth coordinator for the community of communes. As much for children, as for parents and staff. It is a system that is set to develop in leisure centers.”

Hélène Sandragné also visited the Quillan nursery, for which 39,500 euros will be allocated to its compliance and extension.

A health center project

Apart from this contractualisation, the inter-municipal office took the opportunity of Hélène Sandragné’s presence to discuss with her an upcoming project: a future health centre. “It would be installed in the commune of Quillan, said Audrey Fourmaut, coordinator of the local health contract, because it is the only sector where there is no coordinated practice at the level of health professionals and where the doctors in post are over 60 years old.”

Different from an MSP, the center aims to address health in its entirety. It brings together health professionals (doctors, nurses, etc.), but also psychologists and especially mediators. “Their goal is to support patients in taking back control of their care pathway, by helping them with the steps to obtain a vital card for example, as Médecins du Monde is currently doing”underlines Audrey Fourmaut.

An ambitious project that, initially, should see the light of day in a more traditional version. Thus, in 2025, a new doctor, a nurse and a receptionist should move into the premises of the Quillan hospital to begin consultations. “The health center is a project that takes time and currently there is an urgent need to establish these professionals“, the elected officials said.

Grants: time to choose

After a video presentation of the Aude Pyrenees as a tourist destination, Jacques Mamet (vice-president of the inter-municipality) allowed himself to express a regret to Hélène Sandragné. “The Department has decided to reduce the funding for the Quercorb museum in Puivert by 50%. This is a decision which jeopardises the sustainability of this place for discovering medieval music.”

Assuring that she would look into the matter, the president nevertheless warned the elected officials: “Our financial situation and the efforts that the State is asking of us force us to make choices. Establishing priorities for the future is something that must now guide our decisions.”
