Health dismisses the director of the hospital where auditors were injured by ultraviolet rays – Publinews – 2024-02-29 13:36:58

After some auditors from the Comptroller General of Accounts of Guatemala (CGC) were injured after being exposed to a room with ultraviolet rays at the Rodolfo Robles Hospital in Quetzaltenango, the Health Ministry dismissed the director of that hospital and appointed her place Dr. Edgar Alfredo López Santizo as the new interim director of the hospital.

The auditors were sent by hospital authorities to a room to carry out the corresponding evaluations; However, they did not know that the ultraviolet lights were on, so they had injuries to their skin and eyes.

Versions indicate that the director did not want to attend to them and was upset by the CGC’s oversight and by the repeated public complaints that have been made about irregularities in that institution, she sent them to that room to do their work.

DECISION IS PART OF THE QUALITY COMMITMENT

The Minister of Health, Óscar Cordón, issued a statement in this regard and emphasized that the decision to dispense with the services of Rosa Marcea Alpírez Amézquita from the management of the Rodolfo Robles Specialty Hospital in Quetzaltenango is part of the commitment to transparency, quality services and accountability.

To this extent, with the new appointment, the minister reaffirms his commitment to strengthening and improving the services in this healthcare center. Likewise, it was a response given the development of internal investigation procedures after learning that a multidisciplinary team and staff from the Comptroller General of Accounts suffered injuries resulting from the ultraviolet light turned on in the spaces they were given to work.

“The Health Ministry reiterates that efforts are being made to clarify the causes of what happened, highlighting that the work being carried out is for the benefit of the population, which is based on rights, dignity, development and democracy. Furthermore, he reiterates his medical support and accompaniment to the multidisciplinary team and the Comptroller General of Accounts,” he concluded.

Finally, Cordón argued that the authorities are already investigating the case, since in previous years the same thing happened with a team of CGC workers.
