Health discusses the importance of family planning practices for factory workers

The International Population Council presented an experiment to meet the reproductive health and family planning needs of young factory workers in the Port Said investment zone.

The program aimed to reach 20 thousand male and female workers in the 18-34 age group; To raise awareness of the importance of family planning practices in this population and to spread the culture of forming a small family, in the conviction of the effective role of young people in addressing the problem of the population.

This took place during a press conference to present the project to strengthen Egypt’s family planning program and discuss ways of cooperation between the public and private sectors to support the presidential initiative for the development of the Egyptian family.

For his part, Dr. Hossam Abbas, Head of the Population and Family Planning Sector at the Ministry of Health and Population, stressed the importance of this experiment and demanded that it be disseminated in several factories nationwide, as the number of workers in Egypt number about 2.6 million male and female workers, most of them young.

Abbas pointed out that the percentage of women in some sectors has reached over 50%, indicating the ministry’s willingness to provide family planning services to workers through mobile clinics that provide family planning services free of charge by a qualified medical team.

Abbas stressed the willingness of the Ministry of Health and Population to collaborate with the private sector to reach different segments of society and meet their needs for family planning and reproductive health services.

Participants, including representatives from the private sector, the banking sector and the Federation of Egyptian Industries, stressed that health projects and women’s empowerment are among their top priorities and that they are ready to participate in supporting the presidential initiative to the development of the Egyptian family.

Among the proposals discussed were the building of partnerships to renovate and replace the mobile clinics of the Ministry of Health and Population, as well as the development of women’s clubs to empower Egyptian women, as well as the importance of continuing education, skills development and increasing the efficiency of health service providers and family planning services.

Participants also stressed the importance of investing in the awareness and education of young people about to marry on the issues of reproductive health and family planning in order to reduce population growth rates and improve population characteristics and quality. of the life of the Egyptians family.
