The Regional Health Agency (ARS) and the prefecture of the Occitanie Region sent a press release this Saturday, April 11, regarding consultations with patients without coronavirus. The message is clear : “it is important not to give up on your care.

Faced with the health situation in France, the government has taken major decisions to ensure the follow-up and hospitalization of patients suffering from COVID-19. They have led to a reorganization of hospitals and methods of consultation of general practitioners and specialists“, introduces the press release. However, it is also indicated that people with a chronic pathology with follow-up (diabetes, heart failure, cancer, psychiatric follow-up for example) or those who need specific follow-up unscheduled related to a medical situation (vaccination of children, monitoring of pregnancy, domestic accident, trauma …) must maintain or agree to an appointment.

To do this, they must go through their attending physician, specifying that their request does not concern an infection related to the coronavirus. Depending on the situation, a teleconsultation or a consultation in an office will be offered, taking precautions to respect sanitary conditions.

For people usually monitored but with suspected covid-19 infection, the doctor may “either offer you a teleconsultation, to check the absence of gravity and allow the implementation of coordinated medical follow-up at home with nursing colleagues (tele-follow-up or visit); either direct you to a dedicated Covid treatment center nearby“, details the press release. If your doctor is absent or in case of seriousness, you must contact 15.

Not delaying access to primary care for all patients on our territory is to guarantee the safety and quality of care for all, at the right time, in all offices and all establishments public or private care“The press release concludes. This implies that we should not give up urgent care for fear of catching the virus or clogging up the medical services. Waiting too long can have more serious consequences.
