Health decreases to three months the wait to apply the third dose of the anticovid vaccine

The Minister of Health, Francisco Alabí, reported in a press conference on Monday afternoon about the reduction of the waiting time for Salvadorans to apply the third dose of the anticovid vaccine. When this new phase of vaccination was approved in El Salvador, the wait had to be at least four months. After the announcement of Alabí, this wait will be three months from the second application.

This measure, according to Alabí, is due to the advance of the omicron variant, with which there is a sudden increase in cases in different parts of the world and which is considered “of concern” due to its high level of contagion. This occurs despite the fact that in El Salvador no cases of the variant have been officially announced.

“One of the important points when reducing the number of months when applying the third dose, it has been decided not to wait for the antibody or defense titer to drop to a level in which in this way they can be affected with the variants, as is the case of the omicron variant, “said Alabí about the reasons for reducing times.

At the press conference, Alabí assured that El Salvador registers a decrease in covid cases. He also reiterated that in the country vaccination is available for foreigners and people over 6 years of age.

In the morning hours, during a television interview, Alabí was asked whether after the holiday meetings an increase in cases is expected. The Health representative said that according to statistical models they predict that by the end of February or the beginning of March an increase in cases could be expected.
