“In a spirit of mutual aid”
“This Facebook group is in a spirit of mutual aid,” says Philippe, administrator of this group and living in the Vannes region. Its purpose is to bring together people whose personal information provided to Océalab and Biopôle was probably stolen during a hack. Because many people are lost, especially the elderly or who are not on social networks ”.
The Facebook group, managed on a voluntary basis, informs victims of their rights via several documents: a decision tree, a checklist of actions to be taken (filing a complaint, etc.) and a guide to best practices: knowing how to choose an effective password, follow basic rules of caution when using your smartphone, tablet, messaging and social networks. “We are not a defense committee, specifies the administrator, it is a page that listens and answers questions from laboratories,” adds Philippe.
To date, nearly 2,400 complaints have been lodged with the Vannes police station, knowing that they continue to arrive even today. At the gendarmerie, 7,500 complaints have been recorded throughout Morbihan to date: 3,128 direct complaints lodged in the brigades and 4,372 complaint letters. Knowing that there too many complaints still have to reach the gendarmerie.
A similar group was formed in the Eure department with 2,000 members.
