Health centers in Choluteca are without medicines and vaccines – Diario La Tribuna

CHOLUTECA. The delegate of the Medical Association of Honduras (CMH), Edy Avelar, denounced that many health centers in the department are running out of medicines due to the seizure of facilities in the Health Region for more than a month.

The installations of the Health Region have been taken over by members of the Libertad y Refundación (Libre) Party for being against the appointment of Medardo Rodríguez as head of the institution, since they want him to be Ángel Enrique Sandoval.

Avelar stated that due to the aforementioned problem, it has not been possible to supply the health centers of the department of Choluteca with medicines, as well as with vaccines against various diseases, including COVID-19.

The medicines and vaccine doses, he said, are in the respective warehouses, however the protesters do not allow the health personnel to take out the products, so many medicines will be about to expire without being applied to the population.

Likewise, Dr. Luis Maradiaga, who is the coordinator of the Metropolitan Network of Choluteca, announced to his authorities that due to the situation of the installations being taken over by members of Libre, they are risking their lives and thus cannot work.

In addition to the above, the medical and nursing staff of the Health Region as well as the Metropolitan, receive damage to personal vehicles, and what is left outside the campus are objects of theft, among others.

The letter sent to the Departmental Director of Health, Medardo Rodríguez.
