Health care workers will soon receive their second dose of the vaccine

The first employees of the health network who received the COVID-19 vaccine will receive the second dose of the vaccine as of April 19, as promised by the provincial government, thus respecting the 16-week interval.

Health workers from the CIUSSS Center-Sud who were vaccinated between December 21 and February 28 can already make their appointment. It is the priority groups that are targeted, that is to say the employees who provide care or who are in close contact with users.

Although the Marcel-Giroux community center was recently designated as a temporary vaccination site, it is only intended to accommodate the community in the area. Indeed, there is no other place dedicated to vaccination in Verdun for the moment. One of the closest is in the Sud-Ouest borough on rue du Center.

Health personnel must be vaccinated at the Palais des congrès.

Vaccinated employees

Among the 28,300 workers in the health network of the CIUSSS du Center-Sud, it was confirmed last week that nearly 7,600 employees had received at least a first dose of the vaccine. This is around 2,400 more employees than at the start of March.

Recall that Quebec had contradicted the federal opinion by allowing the administration of the second dose of the vaccine up to 90 days after the first, which caused a lot of ink to flow.

It was the Committee on Immunization of Quebec (CIQ) which had decided to go ahead with a longer period since the doses were slowing down at the beginning of the year. The goal of this strategy is to vaccinate as many vulnerable people as possible to reduce deaths as well as pressure on the health network.

CIUSSS Center-Sud staff must avoid calling to make an appointment; the employees concerned will receive a confirmation email or a call if they do not have an email.

In addition, mass vaccination continues in people aged 60 and over. The previous week, there were 467,000 doses administered in Montreal, which represents about a third of the doses given in the province.
