Health Care Workers at Kaiser Permanente Launch Major Strike Amid Staffing Shortages

About 75,000 workers at health insurer Kaiser Permanente are on strike, saying staffing shortages are hurting patient care. Workers left their jobs in several states, at the beginning of a major strike by health care workers.

Wednesday’s strike comes in a year that witnessed a strike by workers in various sectors such as entertainment, hospitality, and the automobile industry.

Kaiser Permanente is one of the largest insurance companies and operators of health care systems in the United States of America, according to the Associated Press.

The strikers include licensed vocational nurses, home health aides, sonographers, and technicians.

Doctors are not participating in the strike, while union members seek to increase wages and increase the number of employees.

An executive at Kaiser Permanente said that compensation and employee retention are better than resorting to competitors.
