Health Canada approves Moderna vaccine for children aged 12 to 17

Young people aged 12 to 17 across the country can now get the Moderna vaccine against COVID-19.

This was reported Friday by the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI).

In the process, the Federal Ministry of Health gave the green light to Moderna’s vaccine after doing the same with the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine last May.

Health Canada has authorized the use of Moderna’s #VaccinCovid in young people aged 12 to 17. This vaccine was initially authorized for people of 18 years and more, one can read on a publication on Twitter.

“After carrying out a rigorous and independent scientific review of the evidence, Health Canada concluded that the vaccine is safe and effective in preventing # Covid19 in young people aged 12 to 17,” it was specified.

In addition, the safety of the vaccine will be monitored by both Health Canada and the Public Health Agency of Canada. The two institutions “will take the necessary measures if security problems are noted”, it was specified.

In Quebec, 86% of 12 to 17 year olds received a first dose of COVID-19 vaccine. The rate of the second dose reached, as of Friday, 70%.
