Health Bureau: Approximately 380 Samarinda residents are affected by HIV/AIDS

Samarinda (ANTARA) – Samarinda (Dinkes) City Health Service Chief Ismid Kusasih said that about 380 residents of Samarinda were infected with HIV AIDS, which is a large number and should be watched.

“From our latest data, so far, there are 380 Samarinda residents who have contracted HIV/AIDS through screening results. You must protect yourself and your family from behaviors that trigger HIV/AIDS,” he said. said in Samarinda on the occasion of the commemoration of World AIDS Day which falls every December 1st.

He said the annual AIDS Day commemoration aims to increase community knowledge, awareness and self-reliance on the importance of prevention and to encourage the community to take an active role in AIDS control.

Ismid explained that HIV/AIDS can be contracted through three things: First, it is transmitted through sexual intercourse. Second, from the distribution of breast milk (ASI) and third, disease through blood transfusions.

She said of the three drivers of transmission, the largest was free sex. Most of these sexual relationships are MSM (men as men) relationships.

According to him, the prevention and control of HIV/AIDS is not only the responsibility of health institutions, but also a shared responsibility to provide socialization and education on how to avoid deviant sexual behavior.

“Samarinda Health Office is always dealing with HIV/AIDS, now we have a regional health laboratory. This laboratory is a molecular laboratory to improve public health services, one of which is the treatment of HIV/AIDS,” Ismid said.
