Health – Bremen – Bovenschulte: Use scope for compulsory vaccination – health

Bremen (dpa / lni) – In the debate about the facility-related compulsory vaccination, Bremen’s Mayor Andreas Bovenschulte called for refraining from party-political profiling. The current legal regulation offers sufficient leeway to implement the vaccination requirement “properly and with the necessary degree of pragmatism,” said the SPD politician of the “Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung” (Monday). “The countries must now agree on how to use this scope as uniformly as possible.” He called for not losing sight of the goal: “It’s about protecting the most vulnerable groups in our society.”

The law passed by the Bundestag and Bundesrat in December stipulates that employees in medical practices, nursing homes and clinics, for example, must submit proof of being vaccinated or recovered by March 15th – or a certificate that they cannot be vaccinated. Employers must inform the health authorities if this does not happen. These may prohibit employment in the facility.

Bavaria’s Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) had announced that he would suspend compulsory vaccination. It cannot be implemented in its current form, and the federal government must improve it. He later added that Bavaria would comply with federal law. Bovenschulte said of Söder’s initiative: “You can’t declare current law to be inapplicable because you see practical implementation problems.” As long as a federal law applies, the states must also implement it. The SPD politician also said he hoped for a general obligation to vaccinate from the age of 18.
