Health begins vaccination of pregnant minors and these are the reasons – Prensa Libre

The Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance began to vaccinate pregnant minors, it was reported this Monday, September 20, when the Covid-19 Dashboard reflected the projection for people between 12 and 17 years old.

Although the registry for minors between 12 and 17 years old has not been authorized by Health, the statistical space destined for that age group is already reflected in the Covid-19 Dashboard and it is evident that until this Monday 109 minors have been vaccinated with the first dose against the coronavirus.

“Pregnant women and their future children are at high risk of complications due to infections caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes Covid-19. The risk of admission to intensive care, mechanical ventilation requirements and death is higher in pregnant women with symptomatic Covid-19 disease compared to non-pregnant women, ”said Salud through its Department of Social Communication.

In addition, it was reported that there are three vaccines that can be applied to pregnant women: AstraZeneca, Moderna and Pfizer; however, in the case of minors, only the last two are used.

Although the Covid-19 Dashboard reflects that 109 minors have been vaccinated, the Ministry of Health records detail that there are 110 and that 131 have been registered in 15 departments.

Health plans to vaccinate against Covid-19 2 million 121 thousand 284 minors between 12 and 17 years old, and with the 109 cases recorded by the board, 0.01 percent of coverage has been reached.
