Health authorities report the start of vaccination against COVID-19 for children over 6 years of age – Ministry of Health

– During their visit to the Arica and Parinacota region, the Minister of Health, Enrique Paris, the Undersecretary of Public Health, Paula Daza, and the Undersecretary of Assistance Networks, Alberto Dougnac, provided details of what will be the vaccination of children and girls between 6 and 11 years old, which will begin next Monday, September 13.
– They also indicated that next week the vaccination of adolescents between 14 and 17 years old will be resumed.

During the visit of the Health authorities to the Arica and Parinacota region, the Minister of Health, Enrique Paris, together with the Undersecretaries of Public Health, Paula Daza and of the Healthcare Networks, Alberto Dougnac, announced the calendar for the start of vaccination against COVID-19 in boys and girls between 6 and 11 years old, after authorization from the Public Health Institute to inoculate this age group with the CoronaVac vaccine from the Sinovac laboratory.

The Secretary of State highlighted the importance of the incorporation of children under 12 years of age to the National Vaccination Plan and emphasized that the country has “one of the most successful programs, recognized worldwide and the best in Latin America. Chile is in second place in the world that has vaccinated more people in relation to the world population, only surpassed by Iceland ”, he indicated.

Undersecretary Paula Daza was in charge of delivering the details of what the vaccination schedule will be and reported that next Monday the 13th the vaccination process of boys and girls with specific comorbidities, and of adolescents between 14 and 17 years old, will begin.

“Next week, we will return to an age group that has had to wait. Between Monday 13 and Thursday 16 September, all adolescents between 14 and 17 years old can be vaccinated on specific days according to the calendar drawn up by the Ministry of Health ”, explained Paula Daza.

For the group of boys and girls from 6 to 11 years old, the undersecretary reported that on Monday, September 13, the process will begin with children from 10 to 11 years old, with specific comorbidities, whose list of pathologies is published on the website of the Ministry of Health. On Tuesday 14, it will be the children of 8 and 9 years old, on Wednesday 16 those of 6 and 7 years old and on Thursday 16 the children between 6 and 11 years old who could not be vaccinated on the stipulated date, all of them with comorbidities described in the immunization schedule of the week.

“They can go to be vaccinated with a document that certifies that they have any pathology specified in the vaccination calendar. And since it is a voluntary vaccination, children must go to the vaccination centers closest to their home, accompanied by an adult, father, mother or guardian ”, added the authority.

The week after September 18, vaccination of adolescents will continue. This time it will correspond to those who are 12 and 13 years old between Monday 20 and Wednesday 22. In addition, children between 6 and 11 years old with comorbidities can continue to be vaccinated with specific days that they can check in the calendar of the Ministry of Health.
