Health ensures that “everything seems to indicate that there will be a third dose of the vaccine.” This was explained by Minister Carolina Darias during an interview this Friday in Onda Cero in which, however, she has not yet been able to determine a date: “What will have to be determined is when. We have signed a contract with the EU with Pfizer and Moderna “, added the head of Health.
Darias has also insisted on the need for “keep vaccinating everyone to be close to 100%“.” The virus has a way of living that is mutating, and some are more transmissible. When we reach 70% we must continue working “, he added.
According to the leader, the Government has agreed with Pfizer and Moderna two contracts that guarantee the aforementioned booster doses. Specifically, in the case of the first, extra vials are expected for an amount of 1,800 million euros, while for Moderna the Executive allocates 480 million. The arrival of the antidotes is scheduled for next year and the next.
This is a confirmation that comes after Spain has reached one of its main vaccination milestones. This Thursday, the Ministry notified that the CCAA they have already immunized 25 million people; that is, more than 50% of the population.
However, the punctures of the younger population are still pending, especially those between 20 and 30 years, which represent the age group with the highest cumulative incidence in the entire country. In any case, as the head of Health recalls, before thinking about third doses, the complete guideline of that 100% is kept as a priority.
And it is here where the head of Health recalls the “importance” of the debate on the pediatric vaccine: once the target population has received the two doses, “we have to see in what terms the vaccination of infants occurs.” Even so, Darias asks for prudence, especially in the face of a possible controversy: “Many say that children they are not the transmittersBut if we want to have a full immunization, we should be able to do it. But let’s go calmly, “he concluded.
Is a third dose of the vaccine necessary?
There are several countries that have already opted for this route, like Israel or Indonesia, where the decision is already a reality. However, it is a measure that, in the eyes of some experts, should not yet be applied, since they are still awaiting more scientific evidence.
The WHO Director-General himself, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, described the Israel Health movements as “disappointing“” It doesn’t even make sense, “he snapped on July 17. Also, from the scientific world, the researchers emphasize that the longevity of the immune response generated by full-course vaccines or natural infections should first be assessed.
Something that Darias has also defended today, stating that
Precisely with this objective, the United Kingdom decided to start a trial to find out the consequences in the body of a third dose of the vaccine. This is a study led by the Southampton University Hospital Foundation, and will be the first in the world in providing vital data on the impact of this third dose.
